Kaoru isn't laughing but there is definitely going to be a perpetual smile present for the duration of the conversation. Yata's funny, he's a keeper...]
Me? I've been here since the first group, I believe - back when the CEO came out to meet us and throw a barbecue in our honor. At the time, there couldn't have been more than twenty salvaged people there... [Not counting the NPCs and robots, that is.]
We were all so confused. No one else was here to explain things to us... But now, it's a little hard to remember that we started off with so few people. I would say it's been about three or so months since that day.

Three months is a while... A-are you the only one here? From your world.

I was the only one for a while - or rather, I met a few others who may be from my world, but they don't recall the same things that I do and I didn't know them personally. [DANG GUMIS. That's brushed over quickly though, since Kaoru doesn't really want to answer questions about those punks or feed any discussion that's centered around them.]
But luckily, my younger sister was brought in only about a month or so after my arrival. Even if it's just the two of us, it feels much less lonely.
[And then there's Shuu who is an outlier and shouldn't be counted, so Kaoru doesn't count him...
EITHER WAY while they're talking, the waiter will come over and place both cups on the table, which Kaoru will respond to with a "thank you" without missing a beat.]

[ If Anna was here, he'd be happy, too. She's not his real sister—in fact, he has a sister of his own—but it would put his mind at ease to know that she was with him and Totsuka, safe from harm. ]
Um... Uh... I-I got family here, too. I mean, they're not family family, but they're like family— [ He almost takes his cup of tea, but the heat prompts him to pull his hand away. ] Ow.
no subject
Are you all right, Yata-san? Please take care... [GOD, surrounded by clumsy buffoons.]
About family, though... It's a good thing, isn't it? To have people close enough to consider like blood, even if they aren't.

[ Kaoru does not want to send Yata to the hospital. Oh well, at least he's a regular. But wow, Kaoru is so kind and caring! Almost as caring as Yata's otome protag. As for family... ]
Yeah. I'm part of a team called HOMRA. Our bonds are thicker than blood... [ Or so they said. His hands ball into fists resting on the table. If those people leave you and you've abandoned your true family, what do you have left? In Cerealia, there's Saya and Totsuka, but Totsuka's dead and Saya's from a world he's never heard of. It makes him uneasy. ] I'm sure more of them will get here someday.
[ If he says it enough, it'll come true. ]

But Kaoru's keeping both hands away, so no heart attack will be in his imminent future, at least! Small blessings. Also listening attentively as he explains HOMRA! Even giving a reassuring smile when he tacks on that last statement, because it's actually something Kaoru understands to a degree. Waiting for Chizuru had brought on similar thoughts.]
I'm certain that they will, too. If your bonds are that strong, there's no way that they wouldn't arrive eventually, isn't that so? I'll hope that it's sooner rather than later for your sake, though.

Thanks... B-But Nagumo-san, this place's dangerous, ain't it? How'd you and your sister... you know. Survive?
no subject
Survive? [THEY DON'T. They're both already dead once-over...] Well... Day to day living isn't too difficult. Adjusting to the technology here was the hardest part. And when things start to get strange, I've been fortunate enough to make very kind friends who look out for us.
[Or, well. They look out for Kaoru, anyway... Chizuru has the Gumis though, which is basically the equivalent of a personal military. She doesn't need any of his friends!!]
no subject
Ah. [ Hold on, something about what Kaoru said just now is a little off, so he narrows his eyes at her. ] Sorry, what year are you from?
no subject
But there's a little "oh" at that, because whoops, right - Kaoru keeps forgetting to mention this.]
For me, the year was 1867. We didn't even have the electric lighting that's so common here, so adjusting was certainly a process.
